Lanzarote by motorhome: An adventure on the island of volcanoes

A little trip to Lanzarote by motorhome is just what you need when your body asks for a vacation in front of the sea. What do you think if you squeeze all the tourist potential of this island with the information we give you in our post?

Doing a 5-day van tour in Lanzarote is one of those experiences that allow you to enjoy life to the fullest. Think about it: mild temperatures, paradisiacal beaches, good food… and volcanic landscapes that seem to be taken from another planet 🧑‍🚀. Can you think of a better destination for your next van trip?

Where to spend the night when you go to Lanzarote by motorhome?

The island of Lanzarote has only one AC area: El Carmen (Arrecife area). This is a paid parking lot that costs €6 per day (+€4.5 for services). Unfortunately, it only has a couple of seats, so it is very likely that you will run out of room.

If you want to camp, we recommend spending the night at the Papagayo campsite. Municipal management, is equipped with toilets, showers, electricity and services both filling and emptying of water. However, it is only open during the summer months.

Don’t let the lack of AC areas and campsites stop you from going to Lanzarote by motorhome. Fortunately, the island allows overnight stays (not camping) in any place for a maximum of 48 hours (unless expressly prohibited). Otherwise, if you want to spend the night on the beach, be sure to place your van behind the white lines located 20-40 meters from the sea.

Beyond the municipal campsite and the AC area, you can fill and empty the water of your van in the Camper Clean of TGAS Taniche (Arrecife) and Cepsa Tinajo. The same applies to the Repsol gas stations in Playa Honda, EDAR in Yaiza, PCAN in Arrieta and DISA (Arrecife / San Bartolomé).

The gastronomic pleasures play a very important role in any route through Lanzarote by motorhome. Among its delicious typical dishes are gofio, jareas, pejines and, of course, patatas arrugás con mojo. On the other hand, those with a sweet tooth will be delighted with desserts such as peanut bread and roscos de alma.

If you are overwhelmed by the tourist overcrowding and you want it to be nice during your visit to Lanzarote, we recommend you to go between February and June. The summer months are characterized by strong winds and are also considered high season.

Shopping lovers visiting Lanzarote by motorhome are faced with two irresistible temptations. On the one hand, we have tobacco and alcohol, which you can buy here without the special taxes that apply in the peninsula and the Balearic Islands. On the other hand, there are the typical Lanzarote handicrafts (jewelry made of lava, ceramics, lace embroidery, palm baskets, etc.).

Lanzarote by motorhome: the definitive 5-day route

Papagayo Beach

It would be unforgivable to make a route through Lanzarote by motorhome without visiting one of its most emblematic beaches: Playa del Papagayo. What’s more, its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters will make you feel as if you were in the Caribbean.

The glassy and calm waters of this beach make it ideal to go with children and / or diving. However, it should be noted that it has few services and is not allowed to access it with pets.

El Golfo

El Golfo is a fishing village that treasures one of the most unmistakable spots on the island: the Charco Verde or Charco de los Clicos. It is a coastal lagoon of intense green color. There have been many attempts to explain this unusual coloration: from a volcanic eruption to the strong presence of algae. Be that as it may, watching the sunset there is absolutely magical.

El Golfo’s tourist attractions go far beyond Charco Verde. It occurs to us, for example, that you could taste its exquisite seafood 🦞 And how about spending a great beach day at Caletón Blanco?

Timanfaya National Park

If you are passionate about volcanology, you have an unmissable date with the Timanfaya National Park. In addition, walking through this arid landscape of more than 5,000 hectares is the most Martian thing you will ever see in your life, due to its unmistakable red color.

By camel 🐫, by guagua (bus), on foot… Timanfaya is a true paradise for active tourism, since there are many outdoor activities that you can practice there. There is no better way to discover its more than 25 volcanoes.

Arrecife

Your visit to the capital of Lanzarote by motorhome will fill this van tour with unbeatable moments. Not in vain, Arrecife treasures the main architectural treasures of the island. Excellent examples of this monumental heritage are the castles of San Gabriel and San José (now converted into museums) and the Church of San Ginés. And don’t forget to take a refreshing dip in El Reducto Beach!

Teguise

¿Did you know that Teguise was the capital of Lanzarote until 1852? As a result of its egregious past, the town preserves a valuable heritage that has earned it to be declared a Historic Site.

It is worth noting that some of its most iconic buildings today function as truly curious museums. Such is the case of the Santa Barbara Castle (Museum of Piracy 🏴‍☠️) and the Spínola Palace (Timple Museum).

Guatiza and surroundings

Before leaving Teguise, we have to make a stop in Guatiza. Its main tourist icon is the Cactus Garden, whose 5000 m² are home to thousands of cacti from all over the world. Equally recommendable are the Church of Cristo de las Aguas and the Protected Landscape of Barranco de Tenegüime.

Located only 23 km from Guatiza, Famara Beach is another must-see. Its 6 km of virgin coastline and its rough waves will delight the most surfers.

Punta Mujeres

The fishing village of Punta Mujeres is well known for Los Charcones (natural pools formed by volcanic lava). Among them, the Las Rosas and Susa pools stand out, whose crystal-clear waters are ideal for snorkeling.

Just a couple of kilometers from Punta Mujeres you have two of the main natural attractions of Tenerife, both having been originated by the eruption of the Corona Volcano. We refer to the Jameos del Agua (a subway lagoon) and the Cueva de los Verdes (a labyrinthine 8 km long cave full of vaults, tunnels and lagoons).

Culminate your trip to Lanzarote in motorhome with La Graciosa

We can’t think of a better way to finish off this 5-day motorhome tour of Lanzarote than a trip to the island of La Graciosa. However, you can not go with your van and in Las Conchas beach bathing is not recommended due to the fierceness of its waters.

To get to La Graciosa you only have to take the ferry that will take you to Caleta de Sebo in less than half an hour. Cycling, climbing the Montaña Bermeja and strolling along the idyllic Playa de las Conchas are some of the best ways to enjoy this island.

Where to sleep, what to visit, when to go… with everything you know right now, there is nothing stopping you from embarking on your own adventure in Lanzarote by motorhome. Rent your motorhome with us to take advantage of its many charms. Have a good trip!
