The trip to Puy du Fou in motorhome: 3 essential stops
After renting our motorhome in Gijón, it’s time to head to Puy du Fou (which is approximately 540 km away). Along the way, we will be able to enjoy some tourist gems that will take our adventure to the next level.
León
A route that goes from Gijón to Puy du Fou by motorhome has to pass through León. After all, monuments such as the Botines House, the Guzmanes Palace or its famous Cathedral make this city a highly recommended stop. On the way, you can take the opportunity to taste the “cecina leonesa” or the “Cocido Maragato”. [AC Area].
Medina del Campo
The rich architectural heritage of Medina del Campo makes it another must-see destination on our trip to Puy du Fou. Magnificent examples are the Castillo de la Mota, the Royal Testamentary Palace of Isabel the Catholic and the Collegiate Church of San Antolin.. If you have a sweet tooth, you will hallucinate with a typical sweet called cocada or coconut cake 😋. [AC Area].
Ávila
An exceptional witness to the history of Spain, Avila is one of those towns that stands out both for its charm and its vast architectural legacy. As its most representative monuments we have the wall, the Cathedral and the Basilica of Santa Teresa. Less known but equally recommendable are the palace of Polentinos, the Jewish tanneries of San Segundo or the post-medieval ovens. [Aparkarea].
Everything you need to know to visit Puy du Fou in motorhome
Puy du Fou Spain is the branch of the veteran French theme park of the same name. Located in the outskirts of Toledo, this subsidiary opened its doors in 2019 and stands out as one of the most promising tourism projects in Castilla-La Mancha. Not in vain, its 30 hectares house a very complete thematic complex where history and nature are the great protagonists.
What to do in this theme park?
There is no doubt that when you visit Puy du Fou by motorhome, the fun is endless. Its famous shows, its excellent facilities and its numerous stores are a good example of this. You’re sure to find a perfect plan for every member of the family!
The shows are the highlight of this theme park. They represent some of the most relevant historical milestones of our country. Special mention should be made of El Sueño de Toledo: its well-known night show.
Do you feel like traveling back in time? Then, you just have to take a walk through the small villages of this theme park (such as Villanueva Del Corral or La Puebla Real). No less picturesque are its stalls and workshops or its Alijares (old-fashioned grazing lands).
Prices and schedules
The price range of Puy du Fou is between €16 and €49. As is often the case in theme parks, there is a wide range of rates and discounts. Also, the exact price depends on whether you want to access only the park and/or the night show. Be that as it may, it works out cheaper for you if you get your ticket in advance 🤑.
During the spring-fall season, the park is open from Wednesday to Sunday and is open from 11:00-19:00. However, we strongly recommend that you consult its official calendar for first-hand information.
Where to spend the night when you go to Puy du Fou by motorhome?
Did you know that it is very easy for van drivers to go to Puy du Fou? In fact, the park has a spacious free parking lot where you can leave your motorhome while you visit.d
Although you cannot spend the night in the official parking lot, you will not lack nearby places to spend the night in the motorhome. Such is the case of Camping El Greco (8.3 km away) or Parking Safont (13.6 km away).
What about the “papeo”?
Food will also not be a problem when you go to Puy du Fou by motorhome. What’s more, in this theme park you will find dozens of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. It is also worth noting that you can bring your own food and enjoy it in the huge picnic areas. What more could you ask for?
What to see on the return trip to Gijón?
As we do not want our return to detract from the outward journey, we will not resist stopping at other treasures of national tourism. It will be a return at the height of our visit to Puy du Fou by motorhome!
Aranda de Duero
The first stop of our return could not be other than Aranda de Duero. Here, impressive monuments such as the Berdugo Palace and the Church of Santa María la Real await you. In addition, if you are an inveterate enotourist, you cannot miss visiting such emblematic wineries as Portia and Don Carlos. [Área AC].
Burgos
How could we forget about Burgos when returning from Puy du Fou by motorhome? The Castilian-Leonese capital is famous for its dazzling historical-artistic heritage, some of its main tourist attractions being the Cathedral of Santa María and the Cartuja de Miraflores. After visiting the famous Atapuerca archaeological sites, it wouldn’t hurt to treat yourself to a well-deserved gastronomic tribute based on Burgos black pudding, don’t you think? [Parking].
Montaña Palentina Natural Park
The Montaña Palentina Natural Park puts the final touch to our trip to Puy du Fou by motorhome. It is an amazing mountain range that will conquer lovers of active tourism.
Inhabited by brown bears, deer and wolves (among many other species), this lush landscape is striking for the beauty of its lush oak and holm oak forests. Climbing the Curavacas Peak, climbing the Piedrasluengas viewpoint or walking the Camino del Románico are just some of the activities that await you here. The same is true for the Cueva del Cobre (Copper Cave) or the European Bison Reserve. You will love them [Área AC Cervera de Pisuerga].
